The basic structure of the Friendbuy redirect URL is as follows:

How can I track Friendbuy in Google Analytics or another analytics solution?

The following parameters will always be present:

  • utm_medium=[custom setting] - identifies the referral traffic medium, default is referral.  This is provided specifically for Google Analytics. You can use this parameter with any analytics solution.

  • utm_campaign=[campaign name] - identifies the specific campaign / widget

  • utm_content=[channel] - identifies the specific share channel – Facebook, Twitter, Email or Personal URL

  • fbuy_ref_code=[referral code] - identifies the share or personal url

Can I trigger a session based discount or other session based events?

Yes. You can trigger session-based events using any of the available parameters in the redirect URL. The following parameters will always be present:

  • utm_source=[custom setting] - identifies the referral traffic source, default is Friendbuy

  • utm_campaign=[campaign name] - identifies the specific campaign / widget

To enable session-based events for a particular widget or campaign, such as a targeted offer, utm_campaign=[campaign name] would be the appropriate choice.

For more advanced session based targeting, you can also pass your own custom parameters via Friendbuy’s javascript, which Friendbuy will pass back via the redirect URL (see below).

Can I pass my own custom tracking parameters into Friendbuy?

Yes. You can pass custom parameters via JavaScript (e.g. coupon=coupon_code), which Friendbuy passes back via the redirect URL. The resulting URL appears as follows:
